Sea Trek Curaçao

Walk on the ocean floor at 6 metres depth wearing a special helmet that keeps your head dry. No swimming or diving experience required, suitable for ages 8 and up.

25 min underwater Pier Mari Pampoen, Willemstad No swimming skills needed Ages 8 to 80

Walk the ocean floor without a diving certificate

Sea Trek is a unique underwater experience where you literally walk on the ocean floor. You wear a special helmet with a constant flow of air, keeping your head completely dry while you breathe normally through your nose and mouth. Just like on land, only surrounded by coral and tropical fish.

The tour departs from Pier Mari Pampoen, next to Surf & Turf restaurant in Willemstad. You descend to about 6 metres depth and walk a marked path through the reef for around 25 minutes, accompanied by an experienced dive guide. From our villa at the Spanish Water it is a 10 minute drive to the departure point, ideal for a morning or afternoon activity.

🪖

Special underwater helmet

Constant air supply, head dry, you breathe normally through nose and mouth.

🐠

Feed fish on the reef

During the walk you can feed tropical fish that swim around you.

👓

Glasses or contacts allowed

Your head stays dry, so people with glasses or contact lenses can join.

How a Sea Trek tour works

From arrival to your walk on the ocean floor, the whole process step by step.

1

Arrival and briefing

Arrive 30 minutes before your booked time at Pier Mari Pampoen. You fill in a health form and receive a short briefing on the helmet, underwater communication and safety.

2

Into the water

From the beach you walk into the water until you are shoulder deep. At that point the dive guides place the helmet on your head. The helmet is heavy above water but lighter once underwater.

3

25 minutes on the ocean floor

Along a marked route you walk in a group of up to 8 people across the sea floor at 6 metres depth. You see coral, tropical fish and can feed them. The guides walk along with you.

4

Return and photos

After the walk you come back up and the helmet is removed. Dive guides take photos during the tour that you can download via Dropbox afterwards, often included in the price.

Sea Trek or Aquafari, which one suits you best?

On Curaçao there are two ways to go underwater without a diving certificate. Both activities use a helmet or dome with air supply that keeps your head dry, but the experience is different.

Sea Trek

Quietly walking on the ocean floor

  • Walking pace, contemplative
  • 25 minutes at 6 metres depth
  • Fixed path through the reef
  • Fish feeding possible
  • From age 8
  • From around USD 89

Aquafari

Active on an underwater scooter

  • Steering, dynamic
  • 45 minutes of riding
  • More open route along the reef
  • Sportier experience
  • From age 8
  • From around USD 99
Both work for non-swimmers and non-divers. Prefer a slow pace with focus on the nature, pick Sea Trek. Want something more active and adventurous, choose Aquafari. Some travellers do both, on different days.

Tips for your Sea Trek tour

🩴

Water shoes or flip flops

You walk into the water from the beach. Avoid bare feet because of stones at the waterline.

☀️

Reef-safe sunscreen

Apply before arriving at the pier. Regular sunscreen damages the coral in the bay.

💧

Your top half stays dry

Apart from the water itself you have no wet clothing. A towel is enough, no full change of outfit needed.

📱

Camera stays on shore

Personal cameras are not allowed underwater. The dive guides take photos, often included.

🥤

Drink water before

It can get warm under the helmet. Being well hydrated helps you feel comfortable.

🚗

Combine with Mambo Beach

Mambo Beach is a 10 minute drive away. Good spot for lunch after the tour.

Stay

A 10 minute drive from 3 Palabrua

Our villa 3 Palabrua sits right on the Spanish Water in Jan Sofat. Pier Mari Pampoen, where Sea Trek departs, is just a 10 minute drive. Combine a morning tour with lunch at Surf & Turf next to the pier or an afternoon at Mambo Beach nearby.

Frequently asked questions about Sea Trek Curaçao

The most common questions before booking a tour.

What exactly is Sea Trek?
Sea Trek is an underwater walk where you wear a special helmet with a constant flow of air. You walk on the ocean floor at about 6 metres depth and your head stays completely dry. You breathe normally, and you need no swimming or diving experience. An experienced dive guide walks with you.
How much does a Sea Trek tour on Curaçao cost?
A Sea Trek tour starts at around USD 89 per person on average. Photos and videos taken by the dive guides are often included or available for a small extra fee. Prices are indicative, check current rates with the operator.
Do you need to be able to swim?
No, Sea Trek is specifically designed for non-swimmers and non-divers. You simply walk on the ocean floor in an upright position, breathe normally and never need to swim or hold your breath. You do need to feel comfortable underwater wearing a helmet.
What is the minimum age?
The minimum age for Sea Trek is 8 years. The official maximum age is 80, provided you are in good health. For children under 8 there is no comparable underwater activity, swimming with dolphins could be an alternative.
How long does a Sea Trek tour take?
The total tour is about 1 hour. The actual underwater walk lasts 25 to 35 minutes. The rest is briefing, changing, getting in and out of the water, and optionally viewing photos afterwards.
How deep do you go during Sea Trek?
The walking route is at about 6 metres (20 feet) depth. You descend gradually along a marked path. The depth is constant during the walk and the helmet ensures you feel no pressure in your ears.
Can you wear glasses or contact lenses?
Yes. Because your head stays completely dry in the helmet you can simply keep wearing your glasses or contact lenses. That is a major advantage over snorkelling and diving, where this is difficult.
What is the difference with Aquafari?
With Sea Trek you walk quietly across the ocean floor with a helmet on your head. With Aquafari you ride an underwater scooter with a glass dome over your head. Sea Trek is more contemplative and shorter (25 min), Aquafari is more active and longer (45 min). Both share the same dry-head principle.
Who cannot participate?
People with heart conditions, respiratory problems, active asthma, epilepsy, ear problems or recent surgery usually cannot join. Pregnancy is also a contraindication. When in doubt, consult a doctor or call the operator in advance.
