Jeep Safari Christoffel Park
Explore Curaçao's largest national park in an open 4x4. Drive off-road tracks to the island's highest peak, spot orchids, deer and the rugged north coast.
Exploring Curaçao's largest national park
Christoffel National Park sits on the western side of Curaçao and covers 2,300 hectares of rugged nature, old plantations and the highest mountain on the island: Mount Christoffel at 372 meters. The park is one of the best places to see Curaçao as it once was, with cacti, orchids and wildlife you will not find anywhere else on the island.
A jeep safari is by far the most adventurous way to experience the park. In an open 4x4 with an experienced guide you drive off-road tracks to places a regular rental car cannot reach. You stop for viewpoints, learn about the flora and fauna and see remnants of old plantations. From our villa at the Spanish Water the drive to the park takes about 60 minutes.
372 metre tall mountain
Mount Christoffel is the highest point of Curaçao with views across the entire island.
Spot wildlife
Curaçao white-tailed deer, iguanas, birds of prey and rare orchids in their natural habitat.
Off-road routes
A jeep safari takes you to the Orchid Trail, inaccessible to regular cars.
Four ways to visit Christoffel Park
Anyone can visit the park, but how you go decides what you see. A guided jeep safari takes you the deepest, a rental car is the cheapest option.
Jeep Safari
Half or full day tour in an open 4x4 with an experienced guide. Access to the Orchid Trail and off-road sections that regular cars cannot reach. Pickup from most hotels.
Self-drive in a rental car
Drive the marked car routes through the park yourself. Up to 9 km of tracks, fine for a normal rental car. No guide, so you miss the storytelling and context.
Climb Mount Christoffel
Hike of 2 to 3 hours to the summit of Mount Christoffel (372 m). Steep and demanding. Start early (before 10:00), as you cannot start the climb after 10:30.
Mountain bike or cycling tour
The park has marked cycling paths. Rent a mountain bike at the entrance or in advance from a local provider. A good way to explore the nature at your own pace.

What you will see on a safari through the park
Four highlights you encounter on a jeep safari or self-drive route in Christoffel Park.
Mount Christoffel, the highest peak on Curaçao
At 372 metres this is the highest point on the island. From certain viewpoints you can see all the way to Venezuela on clear days. To reach the actual summit you need to climb (2 to 3 hours), but from the jeep you see the mountain from every angle.
The Orchid Trail
Christoffel Park is home to rare orchid species that only grow at this altitude. Yellow Jeep Safaris is the only provider with permission to drive this trail. The orchids bloom at different times throughout the year.
White-tailed deer and birds of prey
The Curaçao white-tailed deer is a unique subspecies found only here. With luck you spot them early morning or late afternoon. Iguanas and hawks are also regular residents of the park.
Savonet Plantation and the slave trade
The park includes the old Savonet Plantation from the 17th century, now a museum. During a jeep safari you stop at multiple sites that tell the story of slavery on Curaçao.
Tips for visiting Christoffel Park
Start early
The park opens at 6:00 AM. Early start means cooler weather, better wildlife chances and lighter crowds.
Hiking shoes for the mountain
For the Mount Christoffel climb, flip flops or sneakers are not allowed. Sturdy shoes with grip are required.
Bring plenty of water
No water points inside the park. Plan at least 1.5 litres per person, more if you climb.
Telephoto lens for wildlife
White-tailed deer and birds tend to stay at a distance. A telephoto lens or zoom helps a lot.
Fill up before leaving
No gas stations in Bandabou. Fill up in Willemstad or near Sint Willibrordus before entering the park area.
Pack lunch
No restaurants inside the park. Most jeep safari tours include lunch at a designated stop.
A day to Westpunt from 3 Palabrua
Our villa 3 Palabrua sits right on the Spanish Water in Jan Sofat on the south coast. Christoffel National Park is about a 60 minute drive. Many guests book a jeep safari with hotel pickup so they do not have to drive themselves. Combine well with an afternoon at Grote Knip or Playa Lagun if you are spending the full day in Bandabou.
